BT's i-plate

Postby Wil » Wed Sep 10, 2008 6:01 pm

Anyone using one of these..?

My BT MF50 splitter box is plugged into the wall socket, so I'm not sure if it'd have any advantage for me... but a free 50% speed hike would be nice.

i spoke to a guy in our tech department about this, and he reckons that the theory works (he programmes physics engines in his spare time 'for fun', so by all accounts a mega-boffin) - so for the small fee of £10 i think it's worth a shot.

you do know if you just remove your master socket and cut the two bell wires it has exacly the same effect as the iPlate? the iplate is just a bt freindly way of doing it.

Yep.... the process is explained in various places, but it's a case of should anything ever go wrong with any other part of your phone system, BT can turn around and charge you loads for monkeying about with it. It's a personal choice, plus some folk aren't so confident about snipping wires & such. I've soldered several audio patch bays together in my time but would still think twice about it.

Went and got one to see if the hype is true.....

Went drop 2600kbp downstream, 372kbp Up too......... 6304kbps down, 448kbps up!

Speedtest.net now reports 5.6mb. (up from 2.2mb)

I'm a believer!

Finally I have got around to getting one of these.

Although the info states that the speed upgrade may take around 3 days to settle I have had mine go from 2.8 to 4 just 10mins after fitting and logging on to the internet.

Will check speeds again in a few days to see if it gets even better. I'm happy with spending just under £10 for this.

Cannot get near your speed or Tim's unfortunately. Still I'm happy to get a bit more speed.
